Old Home Week

Well. Our time in Ol' Seattle is winding down . . . so far PK & I have had a great time revisiting the Pacific Northwest! PK is in the recording studio this week [May 24 and May 25] We have a fun series of shows up & coming and will be making some time for family & friends. Looking forward to returning to Pegasus Coffee House for the first time in many years. Apparently the place has gone through a remodel and features an expanded menu. The offerings sound fabulous . . . and being the total foodie I am, I cannot wait to sample the menu! I'm sure the coffee and baked goodies are still as fabulous as ever.
Recently had a couple of good busking days on Alki Beach. Smash & Toast galore! PK always says Alki is his favorite 'office' and he wouldn't mind going to work there every day . . . and I always said if the little pink house on the beach was ever for sale I would have to find a way to buy it! Last Spring when we were in Seattle it was indeed For Sale. Is it still? We haven't been by to check on it yet as most streets were closed for an Open Air Market on the days we spent at the beach. I dare say living on Alki Beach is probably the only thing that would get PK & I to move back to Seattle . . .
Been lucky with the weather so far although after today the rest of the week looks to be pretty dreary with showers and high temps only in the 50 degree range. Uhg! Makes me even more homesick for Albuquerque! [I confess, I've had enough of being On The Road for now and am anxious to return home] Folklife is coming up though & I'm looking forward to that for sure! Fortunately, PK's performance is in the Shaw Room so it won't matter too much if it ends up pouring . . . might put a damper on attendance though and that's not good for anyone.
Wow. May 29 will be our Ninth Wedding Anniversary! Just where does the time go?! It really does seem like just yesterday that PK & I met . . . a lot has happened [and is still happening!] since then. Whoo! We'll be having a Celebratory Party and PK Dwyer Show at the superbly wonderful C&P Coffee Co! Join us on May 30th as we commemorate Nine Years of Love, Laughter, and Tears . . . prosecco cocktails for all who show up! So Be There.
[PK & I will be having a private celebration on May 29 @ my favorite all time restaurant: Maharaja in West Seattle and let me tell you, I cannot wait! We used to eat at Maharaja at least once a week when we lived in the Tiny Palace in West Seattle . . . ]

A Grand Time in Coulee

Well. PK & I have had a great time in Eastern Washington, including Busking at River Front Park in Spokane and a wonderful show in Leavenworth put on by the Community Coffeehouse and Icicle Arts. We felt so fortunate and honored to have PK perform at the last Leavenworth Community Coffeehouse! The Coffeehouse is ending after a seventeen year run and has featured wonderful acoustic performances from many a talented artist. We had a full house attending and PK gave a stellar performance . . . a fine time was had by all! We were given lodging for the night at the Tierra Learning Center & Retreat. The cabin seemed quite luxurious after many nights of tiny motel rooms. The bed was super comfortable and had a down comforter which was wonderful to curl up in! The doggies enjoyed themselves running and sniffing around in the woods, it was all very Zen with no television or wi-fi. So peaceful in contrast with the hectic pace of being on the road.
We then had a few wet & dreary days Busking at Civic Plaza in Wenatchee. Folks were appreciative and dug the music, there just weren't many of them around due to the weather. Smallish Smash & Toast here and the Motel 6 we were at had a weird vibe. I would not stay at that particular one again although I do Love Motel 6. Motel 6 is great for wanderers who travel with dogs . . . I'm hoping they might be a Tour Sponsor next year!
We've been at the Trail West Motel in Grand Coulee, Washington the past few days and I highly recommend it! A bit beat & run down but very clean and the owners are super friendly! Dogs are allowed with a $20 fee. There is a heated pool [which just opened for the season] and BBQ area. Grand Coulee is a neat small town. Very beat in the best kind of way. PK had a couple of really great Busking days playing in front of The Variety Store [Yes, that's the name: The Variety Store and it's like a wonderful old school 5 & 10 type store. The kind of place you could spend at least an hour just browsing around.] The folks in Grand Coulee just Loved PK and his Music & we made good Smash & Toast! Looking forward to a strawberry milk shake from the Tee Pee Drive-in on our way out of town tomorrow. Yum!
The weather has been superfine today [a nice sunny 75 degrees - finally!] . . . and I enjoyed a stroll around the town & discovered the Senior Center Thrift Store where I got six books for 65 cents. They had a great selection of Romance Novels from the '60's and '70's - just what I was looking for and now I'm set for the rest of the trip!
The kick-off of the May Sunbanks Rhythm & Blues Festival is tonight! Music starts @ 8:00 pm tonight with PK's performance in the Acoustic Cantina . . . if you know what's good for you, you'll be there!

Sidewalk Hipsters in Ogden

PK & I had a fun time and great busking in Ogden, Utah today! Enough Smash & Toast to get a room in Twin Falls Idaho and enough for 2 tanks of gas left over.
Nice Motel 6 with hard wood floors and the wi-fi actually works. I always take the extra soap and toilet paper with me when I leave! Doesn't everybody?
Having breakfast out tomorrow and am contemplating continuing the On The Road feel of things with Apple Pie in the morning . . . have not had pie yet on this trip.

Drooling over The Jitters . . .
Excerpt of original review by Grant Alden [review is from either The Seattle Sun or The Rocket early 1980 - probably The Sun] . . . "Now that the record is finally out, there is a real danger that I will slobber all over the newsprint trying to convey its merits, and end up with some sort of parochial platitude like 'it ain't bad for a local band.' Well, to hell with that noise. This album can get up and compete with any national product. Flat out, it's the best, most creative music to come out of Seattle since the Sonics -- the band responsible for 'Psycho' and 'The Witch' . . . Dwyer's songs, and the entire group's performance capture all that sidewalk exuberance, and the lyrics are just a whole lot of fun to listen to. The whole thing seems to be a wonderful amalgamation of folk, rock and blues tradition, fostered in an environment more conducive to fun than money".
The Jitters Gyrate . . .
Excerpt of album review by Scott McCaughey [I believe this review is from The Rocket early 1980] . . . "The Jitters aren't New Wave, but open-minded New wavers should like them (sez me), They're not country (well, there's some mixed in there), and they don't sound anything like an acoustic folk duo gone electric. P.K. Dwyer is not Bob Dylan, though he has sort of a strange voice and writes edgy lyrics to fairly basic music. Donna Beck is not Grace Slick -- there's no comparison (sorry Grace). The Jitters are a rock 'n' roll band with guts and a sense of humor; they play tight but not so damn 'professional' that each upcoming note is a foregone conclusion . . . The nine songs on The jitters are all brimming with this healthy attitude . . . a remarkable first album in every artistic sense . . . And despite the fact that just about every song deals with the neurotic and unfulfilled aspects of love, I get a lift each time I hear this album. That's not sick; that's the way it's supposed to work."
